BiL and the Africa Behavioral Science Network

The Africa Behavioral Science Network (ABSN) is Behavioral Insights Lab’s practitioner network — translating behavioral science research into actionable skills for public health professionals across Africa and South Asia. Since its founding, ABSN has trained over 150 practitioners — Behavioral Science Champions — across 25 countries through a live online training series designed and led by BiL faculty.

In April 2026, the Gates Foundation’s report Investing in Learn-by-Doing named ABSN as a recommended regional hub for building local behavioral science capacity in immunization programs — alongside the Kathmandu University Behavioral Science Center as one of only two organizations cited globally.

ABSN’s training draws directly from BiL’s original implementation research, including ongoing studies on Lenacapavir demand generation and a new behavioral framework for vaccine cold chain maintenance — research being conducted in partnership with program teams in Africa and South Asia.
